This reworking of Kurosawa’s Ikiru, written by Kazuo Ishiguro, is a period piece about a widowed civil servant who questions what purpose his life has served. Exquisite music, terrific acting by Bill Nighy and masterful direction by Oliver Hermanus round out one of the season’s best films. (Rated PG-13)
